Valley Farm Diary - March 2011

Wow, spring has arrived early. What dry weather! It has given us the opportunity to start the Spring Cleaning and painting early this year. With the horses...

... on an early spring turnout we have managed to wash out and paint all the barn stables. This was followed by painting all the summer chalets and then the aviary.

The Camargue Café has taken up most of the month but is almost finished now. This means clients can wait in comfort and enjoy a cup of fresh ground fair trade coffee and home made cakes whilst watching their children ride. It's been quite a journey to create but now it looks worth all the aggravation!

Also this month we went solar powered! The wasted space on the indoor school roof has now been put to good use to create our own electricity. The most exciting thing about it is watching all the meters flying round backwards! This, along with our rain water tanks all around the yards which are used for washing down horses, stables and yards is certainly making us all more conscious of our consumption of commodities.

Sophie and Chloe have been visiting quite a bit and now Friday afternoons seem to have turned into Baby Club day. It's lovely to catch up with all the staff and see the babies, a bit like having triplets! I can't wait for them all to be big enough to start riding – gymkhana circuit here we come!
