Valley Farm Diary - May 2013

More horse changes. Winnie a delightful little Exmoor pony joined us along with Junior, Bear and Stanley. Unfortunately, the changes...

...didn't end there. This month we said a very sad farewell to our darling miniature pony Silver Lady. In her mid twenties, Silver had been loosing considerable weight for some time and had very few teeth. Finally, we made the difficult decision to call a halt before she suffered any major pain although for us the farewell was very painful. She died here on the farm with those she trusted and loved. She will be remembered with affection by all those who knew her. In her time she toured many schools with us teaching children about ponies, attended fêtes and carnivals. Each year she stood in a pen on the Valley Farm stand at the Suffolk Show and posed for visitors to pat and fuss her. When she had received enough attention she would stand right in the middle of the pen just out of reach of those trying to fuss her! Sometimes over the two day show she would lie down flat for a little sleep and concerned visitors would keep asking us if our pony was ill! Darling Silver, she was such a star.

For some reason the weather has remained in winter mode this month with heavy rain, hail and bitter cold. Surely summer must be close now.
